Description:
Learn how to create a dazzling, customizable beaded cuff bracelet with Instructor, Barbara Asher, and explore a form of African beadwork associated with the Ndebele who incorporate stunning beadwork in their culture. Participants will be guided through the completion of one bracelet, which can be recreated and tailored in a variety of styles and sizing - making it perfect for gifts. No beading or jewelry-making experience required!
Materials:
Provided by Instructor:
Supplementary beadings and shank buttons.
Provided by Participants:
Size 8o seed beads with about a 2.5 - 3.0 mm opening (the seed beads may be round or hexagonal). Packs of seed beads are sold by the gram. The instructor suggests bringing at least 20 grams for a small narrow bracelet, 40 grams for a wider bracelet and perhaps 100 grams for a wide cuff. If you have leftover beads you can make another cuff for yourself or to be gifted. Seed beads can be purchased online or in craft stores, including those below:
Links to examples of seed beads (you are not limited to the color options in these links, double-check the bead size before purchasing): Amazon Link, Etsy Link, Michael's Link, Hobby Lobby Link, Joanns Link
Beading thread – not elastic! The suggested thread is called FireLine, which is a type of fishing line and is incredibly sturdy. This can be purchased at Michaels, Amazon or any store that sells fishing line. It comes in black or white (choose white if using lighter beads and black if using darker beads).
Small shank button of your choice used to fasten the bracelet on the wrist. If you don't have one, the instructor has a variety from which you can choose. Suggested size - no bigger than 1/2 inch.
Beading needles - these have a small, narrow eye to accommodate the thread and the bead hole.

A cloth or small tray to keep loose beads contained as you work.
