Description: 

Whether you're a novice or experienced artist, this workshop will provide you with tools and techniques to capture the subtleties that pastel drawings are able to achieve. Participants will learn and experiment with a variety of layering techniques to create dynamic drawings that showcase the interplay of light and shadow. Leslie will be on hand to offer personalized feedback and guidance as you work. Additionally, she will encourage you to share your unique approach with fellow participants, fostering an atmosphere of mutual learning and creativity.

 

 

Materials:

Materials provided by Instructor for a $5 Material Fee:

  • 7'x11' Sheets of paper, 2 sheets for $5

Materials provided by Participant:

  • Soft pastels (the workshop is geared specifically toward soft pastels. Oil pastels are not recommended, as they differ in their application)

  • A variety of textured papers (optional)

  • Reference photographs and/or objects to inspire your work

Materials provided by Five Points Arts:

  • Paper towels and cloths for clean-up

  • Supplemental materials 

 

 

Instructor Bio:

Leslie Landau earned her BFA in printmaking/drawing from the Ohio State University, and Graduate Certification, MS in Art Education and 6th year in Educational Leadership, from Central Connecticut State University. Her work has been included in many exhibitions across CT and NY, including Mattatuck Museum, New Britain Museum of American Art, CT Academy of Art, Silvermine Art Guild, Emerge Gallery and Five Points Gallery. She was the recipient of the Philanthropic Institute's Artist Renewal Grant, which culminated in a presentation of new work at the New Britain Museum of Art. Her work is held in private collections throughout New England, New York, Ohio, Washington and California.
