Description: 

Join artist, Kathleen Schroeder, for an introductory lithography workshop using polyester plates.

Lithography traces its origins back to the 1700’s and has been brought into the modern era of printmaking. Polyester plate lithography bridges old and new technologies, and is one of the safer, more environmentally friendly printmaking techniques.

Whether you are new to lithography or want to brush up on the basics, this workshop will guide you through every step of the process. Learn how to prepare and transfer your drawings or images onto polyester plates, ink your images, and print using the press. This workshop will include an overview of the printmaking process, demonstrations, as well as individual instruction.

No experience is required to design and produce an edition of five original prints by the end of the workshop.

Five Points workshops are crafted to provide a comprehensive, yet accessible experience for artists of all levels, meeting individuals wherever they are on their artistic journey.

Materials:

Materials provided by Five Points:

• Ink, Brayers, Plexi-plates, Polyester plates, Paper, Bowls

• Canson Edition Paper, Newsprint

• Tympans, Sponges, Pens, Markers, Rulers 

• Gum Arabic, Citric Acid, Cheesecloth

Materials provided by Participants:

• Prepared drawing or image 

Instructor Bio:

Kathleen Schroeder originally trained as a scientist at the University of Minnesota before changing course to focus on art. She attended the Hartford Art School and discovered her love of printmaking. Following her time as a student there, she went on to teach lithography and relief printmaking at the art school. Kathleen was also involved in the design of the Robert Dente Print Lab at Five Points Arts Center. Currently, she is enrolled at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design where she will earn her MFA in 2025.
