Description:
Take needlework to the next level and explore what can happen when embroidery and collage combine. Participants will learn how to design geometric shapes using a dot-grid method, transfer their images, and prepare a stretched canvas for embroidery. Then use the back stitch to embroider designs, and embellish them with paper, beads and paint. In the spirit of exploration, this workshop will allow you to play with a variety of materials and take a different approach to traditional embroidery.

Instructor Bio:
My interest in textiles, threads, beads and any form of embroidery or needlepoint began as a young girl who was surrounded by talented woman and one man—my grandfather, who was very accomplished with embroidery. I enjoyed any form of needle work throughout the years, mostly as a hobby throughout my career as a medical imaging specialist. Little did I realize it at the time, but my years of experience in the of imaging field taught me to study and interpret images by employing contrast, resolution, and spatial relations, and this led me to take the study of art more seriously, thus I pursued a degree in art. Visualizing, with a renewed perspective, my interests include many forms of art; painting, textile art, jewelry making, collage, embroidery, anything that gets me excited. I especially enjoy learning about the historical backgrounds behind many artforms and I am constantly looking for new ways to create new art using traditional methods.
* All workshops are held at the Five Points Art Center, 855 University Drive
