Description:
Learn how to make your own book using the Secret Belgian Binding. In this exciting workshop, participants 14 and up are welcome to join Instructor, Sydney Samele, as she guides participants through each step, from selecting patterned book covers, to folding a variety of papers, and finally sewing their own hardcover book. The Secret Belgian Binding is both fun to make and great to use! As a functional art form, this book makes a great gift, sketchbook, journal, or scrapbook!
Materials:
Basic bookbinding materials will be provided by Five Points Arts and Book cloth and patterned mulberry paper will be provided by the instructor for a $15 material fee. Participants are welcome to bring their own patterned papers to try as well.

Instructor Bio:
Sydney Samele is a Connecticut based artist who primarily works in printmaking and book arts. She received her BFA in Printmaking from the Hartford Art School. Sydney actively teaches workshops and works as an art handler. Her work explores mythology and transformation through water. She has exhibited work in the New Britain Museum of American Art, Opalka Gallery, Gallery on the Green, Drezner Gallery, Five Points Gallery, NRHC, HAS Galleries, and the Monastery Art Gallery.
