Description:

This workshop will occur over two consequetive Sundays where students will learn how print by hand and with a press. Throughout history, artists such as Maurice Prendergast hand burnished Japanese paper  in order to transfer their inked image without a press.Participants will be encouraged to print from plates which are cut to 12 x 12 ins. Participants will have a chance to create many prints some of which may be submitted to forthcomincall for entry for Footprint 2024 , an international print exhibition sponsored by the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk in which all prints must measure 12" x12." inches. The instructor will also show participants on how to set up the press for printing and how to adjust the pressure to ensure a good print.During the September 17th follow-up workshop the instructor will demonstrate how one can add an extra layer of ink in perfect registration to a previously printed monotype. There is great depth to a monotype which has been overprinted with an additional layer of ink. New monotypes can be printed on a larger scale such as 18 x 24 ins. but larger monotypes do take longer to print by hand.
