Workshop Description

Use polyester plate lithography to print a set of one-color note cards which you can go on to add color to using colored pencils, watercolor, or art markers. Make a holiday card! Make a seasonal greeting! Make some holiday tags! Make some all-purpose artist cards! We will set up a template for you and you can run with your idea. Participants will come out of this workshop with an understanding of how the process of polyester plate lithography works and ways in which hand coloring can enhance their prints. The aim of this workshop is to have some fun, but it is also to introduce you to the fun and versatile world of polyester plate lithography. This workshop is intended for those who have had some printmaking experience and would like to try one-color polyester plate lithography using an etching press. On the first day you will learn how polyester plate lithography works and begin to draw your plate. The second Saturday will be dedicated to printing your note cards and discussing how hand coloring can add variety to your prints.

Participants will receive more details, including a supply list, one week before the class begins.

Instructor Bio

Kathleen Schroeder is the Director of the Five Points Print Lab and is an Adjunct Professor of Printmaking at the Hartford Art School where she has taught lithography and relief printmaking. She specializes in lithography and is a graduate of the summer lithography course at the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, NM. She also works as the liaison between the Five Points Launch Pad program and the Hartford Art School.
