Workshop Description

In this workshop, art instructor, Janet Iffland, will share her step by step procedures to a successful landscape painting as well as identify the common painting pitfalls. You will learn how to pick your subject, rough out drawing, pick focal point, color values and apply paint to create an impressive painting. You will create and enjoy the moment while learning the techniques to painting landscapes!

Required Materials

PAINTS: Brands: Gamblin, Windsor & Newton or Lukas Oils

Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna, Cadmium Orange Hue, Cadmium Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Transparent Red Oxide, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Olive Green, Viridian, Cadmium Green, Burnt Sienna, Asphaltum

BRUSHES: My Favorite- Rosemary & Co Evergreen brushes. Any brand is fine

Long flat #2-6; Long Angular, 1/4 and 1/2 ; Long Filberts 6, 8; Long Rigger long #0

MATERIALS: Gamblin Safflower Oil; Gamblin Solvent-free gel; Gamblin Gamsol odorless mineral spirits; Palette knife; Gray paper palette 9x12 disposable; Plastic grocery bags (2); Blue Shop Paper towels (buy in hardware store); Outdoor Easel (Wooden French or your choice); Stretch Canvas 11x14 or Oil Primed Linen Panel 11x14; Small folding chair (if you want to sit); Portable Brush Washer or solvent container for on location.

Instructor Bio

Janet is an award winning landscape artist. She has been plein air painting (on location) and studio painting for the past 15 years. She has taken classes and workshops from nationally prominent artists, including Douglas David and Mark Boedges, as well as attending Plein Air Conventions in Santa Fe, NM. Janet was born in Connecticut and has been a lifelong artist here, as well as spending time painting in Naples, FL.

The subjects of Janet’s paintings feature the CT rural countryside, farms and homes complimented by scenes of shoreline. She enjoys plein air painting on small canvases and creating larger paintings in her studio. Originally painting in acrylic, Janet now paints exclusively with oils. She has been honored with numerous show awards, and has been on the cover of Litchfield Hills Magazine. She is represented by PS Gallery, Litchfield and Center Framing & Art, West Hartford, CT. She is a member of Housatonic Valley Art Association in Great Barrington, MA.

She also paints homes and farms on commission to preserve family memories. Janet teaches studio and plein air classes, as well as private classes giving new artists the confidence to create beautiful paintings using her techniques.
