Description:

Learn how to transform plain white cotton cloth into a painted art quilt ready for framing! Working from a landscape photo of your choice, you will be guided through the process of creating a quilt top, from preparing the fabric to sketching and painting, layering batting and backing, and stitching the contour lines of the landscape.

Participants will need familiarity and access to a sewing machine set up for free motion quilting (as sewing will be completed at home).

 

 

Open Studio Time:

Upon approval from the instructor, workshop participants will be granted access to the lab throughout the duration of the workshop. Aside from scheduled workshop hours, the lab is available for independent use Tuesday – Sunday from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm.

 

Materials:

Provided by participants:

  • A landscape photo of your choice that you would like to use as a reference

  • A light colored pencil to trace your landscape onto your prepared fabric

  • Jacquard Lumiere paints in your choice of colors dharmatrading.com 

  • Small plastic deli-type containers for mixing your paint. (Ex: Eonjoe plastic containers with lids: eonjoe 2 oz plastic containers with lids)

  • A selection of medium and fine paintbrushes

 

Instructor Bio:

Diane Cadrain turned full-time to art in 2015 after retiring from her job as a lawyer and free-lance writer specializing in employment law topics. As a fiber artist, she came of age during the time when sewing was taught in the public schools and was a part of mainstream culture. Today, her fiber artwork includes machine piecing and quilting, felting, hand embroidery, and knitting.
