Description:

This workshop will provide a prompt-by-chance using watercolors; a practice of observation, developing images out of abstraction, for those of any skill level. We will begin by spreading a watercolor wash generously over one or more sturdy watercolor papers. An application of texture will be made and set aside to dry. The instructor will offer a series of examples displaying the wide variety of final results. On the second day, participants will practice observational skills and set free their imagination to discern what is suggested on the dried watercolor pages. There will be time, for participants who wish, to look at each others' work and express what they imagine in the shapes ready to be revealed.

Materials:

Provided by participants:

  • Watercolor paper

  • Large brush to apply the wash

  • 2 one-pint containers

  • Preferred watercolors

  • Selection of several very soft plastics (fresh produce bags, bubble wrap etc.)

  • Any additional mediums: acrylics, pastels, marker, pens, pencils

  • Optional: Various brushes (for additional mediums of your choice)
