Description:

Demystify the creative process and make it fun, relaxing, and satisfying! Students will create 8x10-inch collage-based images built from participant-supplied reference photos that will be made up of cut-up and glued pieces of magazine images. To do so, we’ll briefly touch on fundamentals of composition, collage, color and value. This is a maker-driven workshop with the great majority of time spent creating original art. To ground the experience, the instructor will use hands-on teaching, and show examples of his own collage work, including an original, with a step-by-step demonstration of his own creative process, introducing students to his unique working method while also sharing various contemporary artists working in the field from which to draw inspiration and ideas to make your own original artworks.

Materials:

Each participant must bring 3 to 5 life-size 8x10" reference photos printed on copy paper of any subject (portraits, landscapes, still lifes). Participants will use these reference photos to create a work of art using collage so be sure to select images that interest and inspire you to interpret and bring to life. Please also feel free to bring your own specific collages materials, though all necessary materials will be provided by Five Points.
