Description:
Learn this simple process involving creating a collage on a rigid background surface that is then inked and printed. Participants will learn the basics of collagraph printmaking while they create their own imagery using a variety of textured materials. Open to all levels.
Open Studio Time:
Upon approval from the instructor, workshop participants will be granted access to the lab throughout the duration of the workshop. Aside from scheduled workshop hours, the lab is available for independent use Tuesday – Sunday from 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
Materials:
Provided by participant:
Assorted textured materials for collagraph plates including textured papers, paper doilies, dried plant matter, yarn, threads, adhesive labels, adhesive vinyl, ribbons, empty cereal boxes or other lightweight cardboard, etc. (the color of the materials is unimportant because the collages will be printed).
A pair of scissors for cutting collage materials.
Small container of acrylic gloss medium
Larger synthetic brush (for home use) to coat plates in between the two class days.
Instructor Bio:
Kathleen Schroeder is a Connecticut-based artist whose work is centered on printmaking. In addition to teaching various printmaking workshops she also taught lithography, relief, and senior printmaking classes at the Hartford Art School. In addition to studying art at the Hartford Art School she participated in the Tamarind Summer Course in Lithography in Albuquerque, New Mexico and obtained her Master of Fine Art (MFA) from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
All workshops are held at the Five Points Arts Center, 855 University Drive
Workshops may be cancelled due to low enrollment if a minimum number of participants are not met. Registrants will be notified in advance and a refund or credit will be arranged (see workshop polices below for details).
