Weaving: A Scarf Never Goes Out of Fashion

Description:

Learn how to use a floor loom to weave a beautiful scarf! You will choose from three scarf patterns (provided) and select your yarn fibers (wool or cotton) and colors. By the end of the first day, you will have learned how to prepare the yarn and loom for weaving, including warping the loom. Students will then complete their scarf by the end of the second session. Instructor, Katie Strano, will take you through the process step by step. The workshop is limited to six students (one per loom) so sign up early!

Open Studio Time:

Upon approval from the instructor, workshop participants will be granted access to the lab throughout the duration of the workshop. Aside from scheduled workshop hours, the lab is available for independent use Tuesday – Sunday from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm.

Materials:

All material (wool or cotton) will be provided for a materials fee of $20 (payable to the instructor).

Instructor Bio:

Katie Strano is a fiber artist focusing on woven cloth. She weaves both art pieces and cloth for the body and home, playing with woven structures to create texture and depth to express simple, quiet moments of reflection. She has been teaching floor loom and rigid heddle weaving for six years, has been published in WEFT magazine, and has had weaving patterns published by Gist Yarns. In addition to teaching and pattern writing, she is also the owner of Heddle Over Heels, where she works as a production weaver and has exhibited her work in fine art and craft shows such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art Contemporary Craft Show and at the Russel Wright Design Center.

Workshops may be cancelled due to low enrollment if a minimum number of participants are not met. Registrants will be notified in advance and a refund or credit will be arranged (see workshop polices below for details).
