Description:

This workshop is designed for those new to oil painting who want to build a solid foundation in traditional painting techniques. Participants will learn the essential materials and methods of oil painting, including how to prepare surfaces, use brushes and mediums, and understand the principles of fat-over-lean and underpainting. Through a series of structured exercises, the class will explore value, color mixing, composition and the development of form and space. Emphasis will be placed on observational skills, developing personal expression and safe studio practices. No prior painting experience is required.

 

Open Studio Time:

Upon approval from the instructor, workshop participants will be granted access to the lab throughout the duration of the workshop. Aside from scheduled workshop hours, the lab is available for independent use Monday – Saturday from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm.

 

Materials:

Provided by participant:

  • Small, medium and large soft flat bruhes

  • Small and medium soft round brushes

  • One soft mop brush

  • Small container of Gamsol

  • Travel container for brush cleaning 

 

 

Instructor Bio:

Sarah Paolucci is an artist who focuses on the magic of light; reflection, translucency, opacity, color. The science of it is fascinating and mysterious! Sarah received her MFA in Illustration from the Hartford Art School. She has been an artist all her life and a graphic designer for over 15 years. As a mother of young children creating artwork has become even more central to keeping her grounded.
