Description:

The Secret Belgian Binding is a method of bookbinding that uses a primary and a secondary sewing, resulting in a distinct thread pattern on the cover and spine of the finished book. You can uncover the secrets of the Belgian Binding in this workshop designed for all levels of experience. Learn to cut, fold, glue and sew the body of a book. As a functional art form, this book makes a great gift, sketchbook, journal or scrapbook.

 

Materials:

Supplied by participant (OPTIONAL):

  • A thin patterned paper that folds easily

  • Preferred needles (straight or curved), also available in class to borrow

 

 

Instructor Bio:

Sydney Samele is a Connecticut based printmaker and illustrator. She graduated from the University of Hartford with her BFA in 2021. Sydney experiments with various printmaking techniques, such as etching, lithography, monotype, silkscreen and relief. Her work explores mythology and transformation through water.
