Description:

Learn to illustrate scenes from the natural world through traditional watercolor techniques. Build confidence and develop your portfolio as you utilize elements of painting and drawing to create form, depth and atmospheric perspective. Open to all levels of experience, you are encouraged to bring flowers, fruits, shells and other natural objects to draw and paint.

 

Materials:

Provided by Instructor for a material fee (payable to instructor) 

 

Provided by participant (similar items may be substituted if you already have them): 

  • #2 pencil

  • Kneaded eraser

  • Two pint-sized containers

  • Clean unused cellulose kitchen sponge

  • Windsor Newton Watercolor Professional Quality Paint 

    • Colors: Cadmium Lemon, Permanent Rose, French Ultramarine and other colors of your choice

  • Assortment of watercolor brushes of different sizes (instructor recommends Windsor Newton Sceptre Gold Pointed Round Brush sizes 4, 6, 8 and larger)

  • Saunders 100% Cotton Rag Paper 90# HP

Instructor Bio:

Leslie Watkins is known for her landscape oils and botanical watercolors. An established plein-air painter, her work effectively captures the quality of the day and a sense of place: the way the light moves across a scene, the composition of the trees, mountains, and topography. Watkins has exhibited at The Columbus Museum, The Lyman Allyn Art Museum, The National Arts Club, The Salmagundi Club, The Union League Club, The Hudson Valley Art Association, The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, The Lyme Art Association and elsewhere, including Japan.

Workshops may be cancelled due to low enrollment if a minimum number of participants are not met. Registrants will be notified in advance and a refund or credit will be arranged (see workshop polices below for details).
